(VOVworld) - The European Parliament approved on Wednesday the establishment of a new border and coast guard force to help manage the thousands of people trying to reach Europe in search of sanctuary or jobs.

Built up from the existing border management agency Frontex, the agency of 1,500 guards will be rapidly deployed to member countries to deal with huge migration flows. Liaison officers will be stationed in all EU states with external borders to monitor movements.

The force is scheduled to begin operations in September and be fully operational by November, restoring the passport-free Schengen Zone after the travails of the migration crisis.
