EU reaches no deal on oil embargo against Russia

(VOVWORLD) - European Union (EU) foreign ministers failed to reach an agreement on a sixth package of sanctions against Russia on Monday, including no oil embargo.

The sixth package of sanctions was proposed by the European Commission on May 4. Hungary is blocking the agreement, saying that Europe has not yet come up with a viable plan for Hungary who is highly dependent on Russian oil.

EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell said Hungary's opposition will force Europe to keep working to find an acceptable solution.

The sanctions are aimed at cutting off Russia’s oil income, but Hungary and Slovakia do not want to make the sacrifice this will impose on their economies.
