The Council of the EU is expected to adopt the 17th sanctions package against Russia on May 20.

Dombrovskis said the EU is prepared to continue pressure on Russia through additional sanctions to weaken its economy, noting that Russia's primary source of revenue is the export of fossil fuels, so the new sanctions will likely continue to target Russia's energy sector.

The 17th sanctions package will target Russia's military-industrial complex, its shadow fleet of cargo ships, and related support networks.
