Zelenskiy called for a “comprehensive and lasting” ceasefire starting Monday in order to lay the necessary groundwork for diplomacy.

French President Emmanuel Macron had phone conversations Sunday night with his counterparts in Germany, the UK, Poland, and the US in which he expressed the urgency of a ceasefire to facilitate negotiations.

US President Donald Trump, on Truth Social, urged Ukraine to immediately accept the proposal Russian President Putin made last Saturday for direct talks in Istanbul without any preconditions. Trump said this is a prerequisite for the two sides to move toward a viable agreement.

Turkey has said it’s ready to host the negotiations.
