(VOVworld) - Cairo has been working to renew talks toward reconciliation between the rival Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah, which remain deeply divided despite being partners in a nominal unity government. Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty on Wednesday confirmed Egypt’s ongoing and continuous efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with its capital in east Jerusalem, despite events in the region.

He added that without reconciliation, Palestinian society is divided and the Palestinian principles are not united. More pressures are needed to force political factions to have meetings so that the Palestinian front will be united and strong on the way to talks with the Israelis in the future.

Egypt and some Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia are mobilizing warring parties to resume Israel- Palestine peace negotiations, which collapsed in April 2014.
