The agreement was made at a meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) on Tuesday. The fund will be allocated within two years from 2016 to 2017 and the European Commission will supervise the disbursement. The EC also proposed to take 500 million euros from the EU’s fund and its member countries to contribute to the rest of the required amount. Luxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna, who is the President of the EC, said EU countries are ready to support Turkey. The International Organization for Migration said up to November, nearly 860,000 migrants have arrived in Europe, 3,500 of whom died when they tried to cross the Mediterranean sea.
