(VOVworld) – The World Health Organization issued an update Tuesday regarding the deadly Ebola outbreak: 2,240 persons infected with the virus, and 1,229 deaths. Liberia has been the worst hit, with 834 infections since the beginning of the year, and 466 deaths. Sierra Leone has had 848 infections and Guinea 543. In Nigeria, Ebola has killed 4 of 15 infected persons.
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday opened an investigation into the death of a suspected Ebola patient who had returned from India, was hospitalized, and died after developing symptoms of the virus, including high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. The victim’s blood is being tested to determine the cause of death.
Uganda’s Ministry of Health quarantined a Nigerian passenger at Entebbe International Airport with symptoms of Ebola. New Zealand’s Deputy Health Minister Jo Goodhew said New Zealand’s health officials have been given the authority to quarantine airplanes and vessels with passengers suspected of carrying the Ebola virus.
