That was the highlight of a conference on security in the East Sea held at Civitas University in Warsaw, Poland. Speakers shared the view that countries should not use force to settle disputes in the East Sea, calling for the settlement of disputes via peaceful measures based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). In his presentation, Dr. La Duc Trung of the Vietnamese Culture and Science Institute in Poland described to delegates the daily life of Vietnamese civilians and soldiers living in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago. He recalled China’s use of force to illegally occupy the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago and several islets in Truong Sa reclaim and militarize these islands. During the conference, 30 maps and photos testifying to Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Sea were displayed.
