“I’ll be an eight-year president; I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” Trump told NBC News “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
Trump said many people want him to run for another term, but this is against the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution, which does not allow a President to serve more than two terms.
“It’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do. I don’t know if that’s constitutional that they’re not allowing you to do it or anything else,” Trump said.
The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment says, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
The US President added he wants to have a successful four-year term and then hand over to his successor, a Republican primary for the top job. According to Trump, possible candidates to succeed him include current Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
