The meeting took place after President Donald Trump expressed intention to annex Greenland, a territory of significant strategic importance. Denmark’s aim in this round of talks was to bring disagreements stemming from statements made on social media to the negotiating table, in an effort to persuade the United States to respect Greenland’s right to self-determination.
Several European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have voiced support for the position of Denmark and Greenland, affirming that only the people of Greenland have the right to decide their own future.
