(VOVworld) – The firing of a 21-gun salute will start a national tribute to the late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro on Monday at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana.

A mass gathering will be held on Tuesday for the Cuban people to say farewell to their leader. After a nine-day period of mourning, Castro’s funeral will be held on Sunday and his ashes will be buried at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, the resting place of independence hero Jose Marti and other leading figures of the island.
All public activities and performances will stop, and the flag will be flown at half-mast in public and military establishments during the period of mourning.
