It was not clear who was behind the attack, which targeted a checkpoint near the village of Angoor Adda. The attack occurred two months after a border rocket attack by rebels on a security checkpoint in the Khyber region killed 4 Pakistani soldiers and injured 4 others.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share a 2,500 kilometer border. The two sides often blame each other for supporting rebels who carried out border attacks. Security officials sometime blame Pakistani militants who operate from Afghan border regions for attacks on border posts. They say most of the Taliban rebels in Pakistan have fled to Afghanistan as a result of major military operations. Meanwhile, Afghanistan officials blamed Pakistan for sheltering and supporting Taliban to fight against the Kabul government.
