Croatia became an official member of the European Union (EU) on July 1st, the 28th member of the bloc. Croatia applied for the first time to become a member of the EU in December, 2011, and was green lighted by the European Committee. Croatia is the second country from the former Yugoslavia, after Slovenia which joined the EU in 2004.
