(VOVworld) - The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) took the lead in the 2nd round of voting for municipal, provincial, and district councilors on Sunday. According to preliminary results issued on the CPP webpage, it has secured 306 of 393 seats on provincial and municipal councils (78%) and 2,237 of 2,931 seats on district councils (76%). The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) ran second with 86 seats on provincial and municipal councils (21%) and 683 seats on district councils (23%).

The National Election Committee told reporters that the elections were held in a free, fair, and safe manner in compliance with election law. Official results will be announced later this month.
