Brazil and other Latin American countries, which have recorded high numbers of Covid-19 cases, will be in a priority list to receive the medicine early. Avifavir is Russia's first COVID-19 drug, licensed by Russia’s Ministry of Health in late May. It has proven effective in treating respiratory diseases caused by novel coronavirus in 90% of its trials.

More than 560,000 people have died from the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak as of July 12, 2020. There are currently 12.8 million confirmed cases in 213 countries and territories, according to Worldometers.info.
