South Africa’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday issued a joint statement with 15 other countries, expressing concern over the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) heading to Gaza.
The statement called on all parties to respect international law and refrain from violence or unlawful acts against the flotilla. It warned that violations, such as attacks in international waters or unlawful detention, would carry legal consequences.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that the situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly. On September 14 and 15, about 48,000 people fled their homes, bringing the total number of displacements since mid-August to more than 190,000.
