Concern grows over Covid-19 resurgence

(VOVWORLD) -  The total number of Covid-19 cases has passed 8.1 million worldwide, statistic website Worldometers.com reported Tuesday.

As the situation in the US and several European countries shows signs of improving, many North East Asian countries are worrying about a second wave of infections now that lockdowns are lifted.

China has locked down 10 more areas in Beijing to curb the spread of Covid-19, after many new cases were linked to the Xinfadi seafood supermarket. The China National Health Commission reported Tuesday 40 new cases in mainland China.

Japan’s Prime Minister Abe Shinzo warned of a second outbreak after a sudden spike of new infections in Tokyo.

Professor Ki Moran with South Korea’s Department of Cancer Control and Population Health warned that if the government won’t enforce quarantines, there will be a second outbreak next month with about 800 new cases daily.

On Tuesday, Indonesia recorded its highest number of death in one day, with 64 deaths and 1,000 new infections. The Philippines Health Ministry recorded 490 new cases, bringing the total number in the country to 26,420.
