In an interview with a VOV reporter ahead of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary Weerasinghe said Sri Lanka is now carefully studying and discussing Vietnam's development model so that it can be applied to Sri Lanka's conditions.
He added Sri Lanka closely monitors developments in Vietnam and is aware of the goals for the country's centenary celebrations. These goals include one for 2030, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and another for 2045, marking the 100th anniversary of national independence.
Under the wise leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam is aiming to become a modern, developed, and industrialized nation by 2045. Over the past five years, Vietnam's average GDP growth has topped 6% and the country has the necessary conditions to achieve even higher growth rates.
Weerasinghe affirmed the Communist Party of Sri Lanka’s commitment to furthering friendly relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam, believing this relationship will continue to be consolidated.
