(VOVworld) – More than 400 people, representing 8.8 million people who render great services to the nation throughout Vietnam have been honored at a meeting in Khanh Hoa province on Sunday. The event was organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan newspaper and Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee.

Addressing the meeting, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, said the meeting is of great social and political significance, showing sentiment, gratitude and responsibility of the Party, State and people for those who have made great contributions to the revolution and who died for national independence and freedom: “More than 1 million martyrs sacrificed their lives. If today they returned and stood in a line along the national land borders and coasts, they would form a great wall of martyrs to protect our beloved fatherland. Paying tribute to the martyrs and assuming responsibility for 800,000 invalids, Vietnamese heroic mothers and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, we should try our utmost to word on a 2-year special program to review the implementation of policies for social beneficiaries, which will be submitted to the National Assembly and the Government. By 2015, all social policy beneficiaries and those who render great services to the nation will no longer be poor and live in dilapidated houses.
