(VOVworld) – The Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam convened in Hanoi on October 24, as part of the 8th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (CLMV 8), the 7th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (ACMECS 7), and the World Economic Forum on the Mekong (WEF-Mekong).
Senior officials finalized action plans and measures for enhancing the competitiveness of their economies and intensifying integration in the Mekong Sub-Region before submitting them to the 8th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit on October 26.
Officials said the Mekong region has entered a new period of development. CLMV cooperation will promote advantages of the Mekong region and ensure economic growth prospects for regional countries.
Vu Quang Minh, Head of Vietnam’s SOM delegation, said the meeting had finalized the key documents and agenda for the CLMV Summit including the draft joint statement to guide CLMV development. Minh said: “We have decided to invite representatives from development agencies to the Summit including the Asia Development Bank and the Economic, Social Committee of the Asia-Pacific region (ESCAP). International donors will learn more about the development situation in the Mekong Sub-Region and CLMV cooperative mechanism.”
