According to the article posted on the Chinese Embassy website in the US, Qin Gang  recalled when he was Chinese Ambassador to the US, the bilateral relations were at a complex and tough time.

Qin said China is always considered the most serious competitor of the US. He had frank discussions with US government officials, handled thorny issues including the Taiwan issue, and promoted exchanges of cooperation between the two sides in important areas.

Qin expressed confidence that the door of Sino-US relations  has been opened and will not close and eventually get back on track to keep moving forward.

Qin was the Chinese Ambassador to the US in 2021 and 2022. On December 30, 2022, he was appointed Foreign Minister by the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee to replace Wang Yi.
