(VOVWORLD) -Chinese exports to the United States increased last month as traders rushed to beat another round of tariff hikes.

Exports to the US market in October totaled nearly 43 billion USD, up from September's 13 per cent growth, customs data showed Thursday. Imports of American goods totaled 34 billion USD, up 8.5 percent. China's trade surplus with the United States narrowed to nearly billion USD from September's record 34 billion USD.

China's exports to the United States have been unexpectedly resilient since President Trump started imposing punitive tariffs in July in a fight over Beijing's technology policy.
