Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China has “taken note” of reports of the failed missile launch and reports that the US was considering new sanctions, and urged all parties to show restraint. She said the Korean nuclear issue is very complex, stemming from a lack of mutual trust between North Korea and the US. US envoy for North Korea policy Joseph Yun condemned the attempted missile launch, noting that it violated UN Security Council resolutions. He stressed the need for close cooperation between the US and China to end North Korea’s provocative behavior and threats toward US allies Japan and South Korea.
