“Vietnamese diplomatic missions in China and the Philippines have been requested to contact local authorities to provide Vietnamese citizens with shelter, assistance in rescue operations, and ship repairs if necessary. The Foreign Ministry has also sent diplomatic notes to the Chinese and Philippine embassies in Hanoi,” said Ms. Hang.

Typhoon Yagi is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam on Saturday.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 209 kph near its eye, Yagi registers as the world's second-most powerful tropical cyclone in 2024 so far, after the Category 5 Atlantic hurricane Beryl.

At least 13 people were killed in the Philippines earlier this week due to Yagi.
