At a government meeting on recovery solutions with 26 localities affected by the typhoon, the Prime Minister requested actions, not to let any people lack food, clothing, water, or shelter, quickly stabilize the people's lives, urgently restore production and business, control inflation, striving to still achieve economic growth of 7%.
Prime Minister Chinh also requested concentrated forces on searching for missing people, treating the injured and sick, organizing funerals for the dead, and adopting policies for families of deceased or injured people. He stressed the urgent need to ensure supplies and environmental hygiene, prevent diseases, repair medical and educational facilities, and ensuring social security, leaving no one behind.
Underlining the task of restoring production and business, the Prime Minister requested efforts to make statistics on damage to production and business establishments, restore cultivation and animal husbandry, support the restoration of various types of services and production.
He urged for disbursement of public investment, implementation of national target programs, budget collection, supply of gasoline, electricity and water, while effectively using money to help overcome storm and flood consequences. It’s imperative to focus on renewing three traditional growth drivers including investment, export, and consumption and promoting new growth drivers, the PM said.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of 6 a.m. on Sunday, 281 people were reported dead and 67 others missing. Lao Cai province is the hardest hit with 118 dead and 50 missing. 232,000 houses were destroyed, more than 48,700 hectares of crops were flooded.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment estimated physical damage caused by Typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods and landslides at about 40 trillion VND (1.7 billion USD).
