Wednesday meeting with Wu Dawei, China's special envoy for Korean Peninsula affairs, was included in the China visit of Shinsuke Sugiyama, Director-general of the Asia and Oceania Affairs Bureau of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, following North Korea’s third nuclear test. At the meeting, Japan asked China to step up its role in resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula while China urged related parties to settle their disputes through dialogue and negotiation. Lei said Japan and China need to work closely on bilateral, regional, and global issues of common concern.
