(VOVworld) – Chilean President Sebastian Pinera Echenique on Sunday left Ho Chi Minh city, concluding his official 5-day visit to Vietnam. On Saturday, he visited Cu Chi tunnel on the outskirts of the city. During his stay in Vietnam the Chilean President held talks with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, met Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Chilean media quoted Director of Chilean Agency for Trade Promotion Felix de Vicente as saying that one the Free Trade Area (FTA) with Vietnam takes effect, two-way trade will double the current figure to 1 billion USD in the next 3 years. According to Vicente, the FTA will exempt tariffs for more than 9,000 items from Chile, including wine, fruits and IT products. Meanwhile, Vietnam will have the opportunities to increase exports of item such as timber products, fruits and fish.
