(VOVworld) – The Cambodian Senate stripped the immunity from arrest of Senator Hong Sok Hour of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) on Monday.

Hour is being detained under a decision by all 47 Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) senators, who voted to approve the motion while CNRP senators boycotted the hearing. The decision opens the door to further legal proceedings against Hour.

On Saturday, Cambodian police arrested Hour under the order of Prime Minister Hun Sen for distorting Article 4 of the 1979 Cambodia-Vietnam border treaty. Senator Hour was accused of treason by Hun Sen for posting on his Facebook page that Vietnam and Cambodia would dissolve their border.
