The working groups’ agenda was passed after Prime Minister Hun Sen agreed on Tuesday to recognise the NEC as a constitutional agency and allowed the opposition party the right to have their own television station.

The working groups, each consisting of 3 members, will meet at the Cambodian Senate to discuss whether the National Election Commission (NEC) is a constitutional agency and whether to grant a license to establish a television station for the opposition party. The working groups’ agenda was passed after Prime Minister Hun Sen agreed on Tuesday to recognise the NEC as a constitutional agency and allowed the opposition party the right to have their own television station. Head of the CNRP, Sam Rainsy, assesed Hun Sen’s action as a positive sign in resolving the political stalemate in Cambodia after the parliamentary elections took place last July.
