The US tops the world in the number of both infections (23.6 million) and deaths (394,000). 4,470 COVID-19 patients died in the US on Tuesday, setting a new single-day record, John Hopkins University reported. This is the first time the fatality rate in the US has surpassed 4,000 in one day.
The US infection rate is followed by that of India and Brazil.
