Extra security devices were deployed at strategic points. On the eve of the 2016 Olympics, Brazilian intelligence warned that famous tourist spots in Rio de Janeiro may become terrorist targets.

Brazil has strengthened security following recent attacks in Europe and the Middle East. Brazil plans to deploy 88,000 police officers and soldiers to ensure security during the global games.
