The statement came after Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said he wanted French President Emmanuel Macron to apologize for “insults” he gave before he would accept a 20 million USD offer from the G7 nations to help fight Brazil’s forest fires.
Macron said on the sidelines of the G7 meeting in Biarritz, France, that he will block new trade agreements with Latin American countries if Brazil fails to protect the Amazon.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Berlin is offering financial and technical help to Brazil to put out the forest fires in the Amazon.
