Protests during World Cup

Protesters blocked one of Sao Paulo's main freeways to demand more low-cost housing in the city of 11 million people despite the fact that the group had reached an agreement with the government that they wouldn't protest during the World Cup.
Last year, weeks ahead the Confederations Cup kicked off, this homeless workers group staged some of the largest rallies where more than 1 million Brazilians were out on the streets on a single day. A smaller group also demonstrated on Wednesday in Porto Alegre, another World Cup host city, to demand better public transportation. To disperse the group, police officers used tear gas in response to what they termed extreme actions.
