During a meeting on Wednesday with Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Hung Tam at the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra, Bell highlighted the coordination between the Australian Border Force and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security under the 2016 memorandum of understanding on the return of Vietnamese citizens. The agreement was signed between the Vietnamese ministry and the then Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

She underscored the necessity  for information sharing and coordination in investigations, detections, and warning of fraudulent schemes.

Ambassador Tam highly appreciated the close cooperation among the Australian Border Force, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, and the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, in the fight against human trafficking, particularly in the context of growing tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

He proposed that Ambassador Lynn Bell and the Australian Border Force continue regular exchanges and close coordination with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia in addressing related issues.
