Under Thailand’s leadership, touched upon the joint bid in 2026 including the general requirements, timeline, and the role each member state will take.

ASEAN’s bid for possible hosting of the FIFA World Cup was first mooted by ASEAN Foreign Ministers in 2011.

At their 34th summit in 2019 in Bangkok, ASEAN leaders welcomed the idea and and voiced support for the efforts to realise this goal.
