A statement said the PCA’s ruling creates a firm legal precedent for East Sea sovereignty disputes and enforcement of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The Institute asked all nations to abide by the ruling to protect regional peace and stability, and opposed any action escalating tensions in the East Sea, including installing military equipment, constructing artificial islands, and obstructing marine transportation.
The same day, Argentine media company Equilibrium Global ran an analysis by Vanina Fattori, an expert on international affairs, hailing the PCA’s ruling. Fattori said that before the 1940s China had never declared its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, but Vietnam has ample historical evidence to prove its sovereignty there.
