The US is likely to turn to Saudi Arabia to lead the Middle Eastern effort against the Islamic State
(VOVworld) – US Secretary of State John Kerry will meet his counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, the six Arab Gulf states, and Iraq to broaden a coalition to combat the self-declared Islamic State (IS). The 2-day meeting in the Saudi port city of Jeddah will look for ways to tackle terrorism, specifically the IS. Ahead of his Middle East visit, Kerry told reporters on Wednesday that the US is committed to setting up a strong, long-term international coalition to combat the IS, adding that the US will stand shoulder to shoulder with communities in Iraq and with other partners to strengthen Iraq’s ability to fight this common enemy. Kerry urged countries supporting the effort to build a coalition for military action and cut off all aid to the IS.
