The meeting of the appraisal council for the scheme said that aquatic exploitation is one of the 6 major components of the marine economy and Vietnam is expected to harvest 2.8 million tonnes of aquatic products by 2030.  

“Aquatic exploitation constitutes a pillar of Vietnam’s fishing sector. Last year, Vietnam harvested more than 3.8 million tonnes of aquatic products, cultivated 5.2 million tonnes and earned 11 billion USD from aquatic exports," said Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. 

"Preservation lays a solid foundation for sustainable exploitation and international integration, particularly the removal of the EC’s yellow card on Vietnam’s fishing industry,” he said. 

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, who chaired the meeting, said the appraisal council has agreed on the viewpoints, goals, and solutions of the planning scheme.

"We need a list of detailed projects which will be approved by the council before being submitted to the Prime Minister,” said Mr. Quang.
