Delegates from the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Forum reviewed the healthy Asia-Pacific 2020 roadmap and discussed a draft joint statement on health to be submitted to the APEC summit in Da Nang city in November.
“Discussions focused on how best to utilize resources for healthcare programs, particularly for community-based primary healthcare to cope with new diseases. APEC is experiencing growing non-infectious diseases and population aging,” said Tran Thi Giang Huong, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Public Health.
At the APEC Emergency Preparedness Working Group, Vietnamese representatives proposed a united mechanism within APEC on emergency assistance in the wake of natural calamities.
APEC officials also discussed technical support for anti-corruption efforts in APEC member economies.
Earlier, APEC working groups and sub-committees touched upon automobile, custom procedures, anti-corruption, e-Commerce, and illegal logging.
