AMM-53 and related meetings kick off

(VOVWORLD) - The 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-53) began on Monday with the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) and the ASEAN Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone (SEANWFZ).

AMM-53 and related meetings will run through Saturday as a teleconference chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Participants will discuss the COVID-19 epidemic and ways to strengthen regional peace, stability and security with a focus on fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and finalizing the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The conference will also assess the progress of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in strengthening connectivity, developing subregions, narrowing development gaps, and enhancing community identity and awareness.
