Pitch Black, the largest and the most complicated air combat exercise in the Oceania, began on Friday in Australia’s northern city of Darwin. The exercise, with 94 aircraft and 3.200 soldiers from Australia, the US, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore taking part, will last until August 17. It is the first time Indonesia takes part in the exercise, marking a new era of cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. Rory Metcalf, the director of the international security program at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, said the exercise will help the countries to have faith in their in defense relationship, as their best troops will be able to work with each other.
