This is the second batch of the vaccine to be delivered to Vietnam this month, bringing the total vaccine donation from the US Government to the Southeast Asian country to more than 5 million doses, according to UNICEF Vietnam.

Vietnam has so far received nearly 7.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including Moderna and AstraZeneca, through the COVAX Facility, the global risk-sharing mechanism for pooled procurement and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Some 4.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Vietnam.

The latest batch of vaccine will help the Ministry of Health to expand inoculation coverage, contributing to attaining the country’s target of vaccinating more than 70% of the population by the end of the first quarter of 2022.

“These vaccines arrive at a critical time for Vietnam as the country experiences its fourth and most devastating wave of COVID-19,” said UNICEF Vietnam Acting Representative Lesley Miller.
