The contest, organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), tasks students to “Write a message to an adult about the world where we are living”.

The competition aims to improve students’ writing skills and critical thinking, help them access and be aware of social issues, and sound their opinions on the matters.

Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and head of the Organizing Board, said: “Each selected theme aims to help students access and understand the issues of society and era, and express their thoughts on them. The contest  also aims to nurture the emotional connection and sense of responsibility of youths to the community, the nation, and the world. It is also an opportunity for students to improve their knowledge and writing skills as well as learn more about the role of post and telecommunications in  society.”

Eighth-grader Nguyen Bao Dan of Thanh Cong Secondary School in Hanoi said: “The competition  is a useful way for students to express their ideas and opinions on social developments and have the honor of what we are enjoying. I hope more such competitions will be held so that more young people can join and share their ideas.”

Vietnamese students under 15 years old are eligible for the competition. Each contestant is required to submit a handwritten letter of less than 1,000 words before February 25, 2020.
