Mr. Trong told a press briefing in Hanoi that the Congress was successful in many aspects, from its content, form, organization, to working attitude, resulting in its resolution.

He highlighted the efficiency of preparation work, especially regarding documents and personnel for the Congress. The drafting of the documents began in 2018, with 80 revisions based on ideas and wisdom from the entire Party and people, Mr. Trong said, adding that the draft documents were made available for public comment for the first time.

Careful personnel preparations resulted in high consensus at the Congress, he added.

The meticulous organization of the Congress ensured the security and safety of the Congress despite a new outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. But Mr. Trong stressed that the important thing now is to bring the Congress’s resolution to life.

“The resolution must be institutionalized and specified in drastic policies and directions from the highest to the lowest levels, making the people wealthier and the country stronger. Only then will the Congress be a genuine success,” said Mr. Trong.

Responding to a question on Vietnam’s fight against corruption, Mr. Trong said corruption occurs in all countries and combating it is important.

“The fight against corruption is long and difficult. There is no restriction for anti-corruption effort in Vietnam. Penalties should serve the purpose of deterrence,” he noted.

Party leader and President Trong affirmed that Vietnam has never before had the fortune, strength, position, and prestige as today.
