Food outlets across the capital have been packed with eaters again after Hanoi authorities lifted its 9pm opening ban, starting on March 15.

The move is part of Hanoi’s wider plans for the safe, flexible adaptation and effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the reopening of international tourism from March 15

Restrictions are dropped as the capital boasts an extremely high vaccination rate. Although the city’s daily coronavirus count remains high, deaths and hospitalisations from the virus are under control.

Vu Minh Hoang, an owner of three food outlets on Luong Ngoc Quyen street, says he is happy to receive more customers than normal days as eateries are allowed to open after 9 p.m.

Food outlet owner Le Thanh Hang shares that she has been forced to close her eatery before 9 p.m. for the past 15 months, causing difficulties for her business.

Many local residents take advantage of the new rules to enjoy nightlife activities after a 15-month pandemic hiatus.

Arriving in the capital days ago, Thuy Hang of Quang Nam province is eager to join the bustling scenes in Hanoi’s Old Quarter with her friend.

Tong Duy Tan street is also busy again from the night of March 15.

Local venues are required to fully comply with COVID-19 prevention and control measures issued by health authorities.

People who have suspect symptoms such as a fever, persistent coughing, shortness of breath, as well as loss of taste and smell are required to avoid public activities.
