(VOVWORLD) - The Quang Ninh Museum is a hot tourist attraction in Ha Long City of northern Quang Ninh province thanks to its rich cultural exhibits coupled with its unique architecture for youngsters to enjoy. Recently it has incorporated the use of digital technology to enhance their visitors’ experience.

The Quang Ninh Museum is a famous attraction in Ha Long City. The cultural center honors the values of Quang Ninh province, which is known as the land of coal mines.

A virtual museum guide takes the visitors on a cyber tour of Museum on the website baotangao.baotangquangninh.vn. The entire museum has been digitalized with 3D technology, from its exterior architecture which likens it to a “black pearl” on the shore of Ha Long Bay to the impressive indoor displays including the “boat carrying history of many eras”, the underground coal mining pits, and the Yen Tu special national relic complex.

Online visitors can explore the special national historical relic of the Bach Dang victory, the Bach Dang woodpile yard, pagodas, temples, and landscapes on the left bank of the Bach Dang River, the special national relic site of the Tran Dynasty, a temple of female general Le Chan in Dong Trieu district, and others.

3D digitization is known as a technology using professional 3D scanners to scan an entire real space and its objects to visualize them 100% accurately in virtual reality.

When the visitors touch the screen to move in the virtual space, they can view an object multidimensionally. Katherin, a tourist from Philippines says: “Thanks to interactive software and devices, visitors can learn about the museum before starting a physical journey. Digital museum technology brings a fairly realistic perspective to those who are unable to come to the museum.”

Pham Van Quyet, a tourist from Da Nang, excitedly says: “The technology makes it easy for everyone to find anything at the museum. I enjoy the virtual experience. I see everything quite real.”

As an outstanding cultural and architectural work in the center of Ha Long City, the Quang Ninh Museum is a very popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists. In 2022, it welcomed about 700,000 visitors, with up to 10,000 visitors on peak days.

The museum has more than 30,000 artifacts, including 12 National Treasures. Besides a physical display system, since 2015, it has put large interactive screens into operation, which are also connected online with the Yen Tu relic site and used to show documentaries to offer visitors a different experience.

Đỗ Quyết Tiến, Director of the Quang Ninh Museum, emphasized the urgency to apply digital technology in museums. Because of the COVID-19 interruption, a digital technology update at the museum has been unable to keep up with visitor demand.

To meet the tourism boom after the pandemic, the Quang Ninh Museum has invested heavily in innovation and application of technology. It has constantly improved the display of artifacts, especially the national treasures, to lure visitors, said Tien.

“We have applied digital technology such as 3D projection in the exhibition spaces for coal production and the exhibit featuring President Ho Chi Minh and ethnic groups in Quang Ninh on the 60th founding anniversary of the province, and online history lessons for students. We will continue to upgrade and renovate to attract more visitors.”

Museum digitization has become an inevitable trend in the Industry 4.0 Era. The museum is an important cultural institution to store valuable documents and artifacts and contribute to the protection and promotion of cultural and historical heritages.
