Starting this week, Carrefour Ganshoren supermarkets, a famous French retail supermarket chain, have reserved an exclusive shelf for Vietnamese food. Bernard Weiss, owner of a Carrefour Ganshoren supermarket in Belgium, said that with the introduction of the Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Office in Brussels, he decided to begin selling Vietnamese agricultural products. The quality and design of the Vietnamese products have impressed Carrefour Ganshoren and Belgian consumers.
Pham Van Hien, Director of B.V Import and Export Company that supplies Vietnamese agricultural products to Carrefour Ganshoren supermarkets, said: “When we work directly with franchisees, who have the advantage to select the desired products. We will advise them on Vietnam's strong products such as noodles, vermicelli, and ST25 rice. We have also brought the flavor of Vietnamese chili sauce to the European market.”
Vietnamese businesses have regularly introduced new, higher quality products to the European market through many channels. The best approach is to sign contracts with supermarket chains and stores like Carrefour Ganshoren which has 13,000 supermarkets in many countries. Vietnamese businesses have also negotiated with food processing companies, industrial catering companies, and with individual supermarkets and stores.
On the sideline of the Southeast Asian Forum in Paris last year, Ministry of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien met with representatives of Carrefour Group, who said that with a population of 65 million and many people loving Vietnamese cuisine, France is a lucrative market for Vietnamese exports.
