Export revenues of the agriculture, fishery, and aquaculture sectors in the first two months of this year totaled 14 billion USD, 16% more than in the same period last year.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on agricultural production and higher prices for input materials such as animal feed, Vietnam’s agricultural sector has found effective response measures.

“We have appropriate solutions, assessment, and orientation for agricultural growth. The key is to understand the situation and come up with the right solutions,” Tien said.

Vietnam has approximately 28 million pigs, 525 million fowls, and 9 million cows. In the first two months of this year, seafood output reached 1.2 million tons, up 1.9%, and the prices of pangasius and shrimp are very favorable. It is expected that this year seafood exports will exceed 9 billion USD. The export of forestry products is almost certain to reach the target of 17 billion USD.

Deputy Minister Tien said: “We will promote our products in markets with which we have effective free trade agreements and try to penetrate niche markets and industries advantageous to us. Our comprehensive solutions should enable us to earn more than 50 billion USD from agricultural exports this year.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has introduced measures that focus on traditional markets and markets where production and supply chains are disrupted.
