This was the first time Vietnam has participated as a partner country in the BRICS Summit, a multilateral cooperation mechanism of emerging economies which is gaining significant global economic and political influence.
A strong message on strengthening multilateral cooperation
Attending the summit with 35 leaders and representatives of BRICS member states, partner countries, financial institutions, and other invited guests, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered a strong message of enhanced multilateral cooperation and emphasized the role of developing countries in the global governance system.
At all discussions on economic and financial issues, artificial intelligence, environment and climate change, and global health, Mr. Chinh raised practical proposals aligning with the interests and concerns of developing nations. Noting that the world is undergoing complex changes, with diminishing trust in multilateralism and international law, the Vietnamese Prime Minister called on countries to uphold solidarity and strengthen cooperation and dialogue to address challenges through a global, inclusive, and comprehensive approach.
With a mindset of "going together, arriving together, working together, benefiting together, and succeeding together," Prime Minister Chinh put forward specific proposals that addressed global concerns, such as reforming the international financial system, promoting South-South economic connectivity, applying technology and AI for sustainable development, and ensuring equitable access to financial, technological, and healthcare resources for developing countries.
“Only through unity, consensus, and joint action can we create a healthy planet, a clean ecosystem, a prosperous world, and true happiness for future generations. Vietnam stands ready to join BRICS and other nations in striving toward carbon neutrality goals and contributing responsibly and effectively to global mechanisms on environment, climate change, and public health,” said Mr. Chinh.
Vietnam’s contributions to the summit’s overall success highlighted its image as a country dynamic and consistent om combining economic development with environmental protection and global integration for peace, cooperation, and global development.
The leaders of countries and organizations praised Vietnam’s proposals to promote solidarity, cooperation, and dialogue to address shared challenges.
Opening up new channels for cooperation
While in Brazil, Prime Minister Chinh held a number of meetings with leaders of BRICS member states, partner countries, developing nations, and international organizations, seeking new avenues for enhancing cooperation between Vietnam and its partners and maximizing resources for national development in a new era of growth.
Prime Minister Chinh’s participation in the expanded BRICS Summit and his working activities in Brazil conveyed three messages. First, Vietnam is committed to peace, stability, cooperation, and development and is determined to grow in the new era. Second, this is an opportunity for Vietnam to contribute to elevating the voice and role of developing countries, and promoting inclusive multilateralism based on respect for the UN Charter and international law. Third, Vietnam’s participation in multilateral mechanisms including BRICS will help the country maximize international resources and enjoy favorable conditions for national development while diversifying partnerships and strengthening national power to effectively implement Politburo Resolution 59 on proactive international integration in the new context.
