(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam exported its first batch of bird's nest products to China last Thursday under a Protocol signed in 2019 between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and China’s General Administration of Customs. Vietnamese bird's nest products are now available in China, a market with a strong demand for bird's nests and bird’s nest products.

The first export of Vietnamese bird's nest products to China, an important event for the Vietnamese agriculture industry, is the result of effective implementation of quarantine, inspection, and veterinary hygiene requirements specified in the Protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and China’s General Administration of Customs.

The AVANEST Vietnam Nutrition Joint Stock Company is the first Vietnamese business licensed by China’s General Administration of Customs to export refined bird's nests and cooked bird's nest products to China.

Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said gaining China's permission creates a great opportunity for Vietnam’s bird's nest industry.

“In addition to the prerequisites of ensuring disease safety and food safety, a very important requirement is managing each batch of bird's nests to ensure clear and specific traceability. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the Department of Animal Health and other agencies to help local businesses in coding each bird's nest house. All procedures are logically managed on a digital system,” said Long.

To expand export markets and improve product value, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien advised producers to strengthen connectivity, expand birds’ nest flocks, improve technology, and diversify products to tap opportunities in the Chinese market.

"The Chinese market is huge and presents a lot of opportunities. With China importing Vietnamese bird’s nest products, Vietnam’s bird’s nest industry will expand production and improve processing and product quality,” said Tien.

42 of Vietnam’s 63 provinces and cities produce bird’s nests. The total output is 150 tons of bird’s nest products, worth more than 600 million USD.
